Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AGV and AMRs?

You may be familiar with AGVs. They follow fixed routes, such as laser-guided or magnetic tape pathways, which can make them more limited in what they can do. At Cyngn, our vehicles are Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). We use advanced sensors, cameras, and software to dynamically navigate and interact with the environment without the need for any special infrastructure installation.

AMRs are more flexible and intelligent. Unlike AGVs, we do not require any special infrastructure or an operator to oversee operations. Our vehicles can choose the most efficient path to the endpoint.

Are your autonomous vehicles safe?

Let us put it simply: autonomous vehicles are safer than human drivers.

By deploying our autonomous vehicles, your organization can elevate its safety standards to new heights, breaking the cycle of costly incidents to create a safer, more positive, and productive work environment. Equipped with multiple sets of independent sensor systems, Cyngn’s autonomous vehicles haven’t had a single safety incident since we began operating them in 2017.

Some of our safety features include:

- DriveMod’s Decision Engine is 3X faster than a human driver, and 3D Lidars bring complete 360° vision to our vehicles.

- Our collision avoidance system, Virtual Bumper, is a redundant sensor and compute package that doubles the number of systems responsible for safety.

- Communication lights and audio cues serve as added safety measures for your team.

Can humans drive Cyngn's vehicles?

Yes. Our vehicles can switch between manual and automatic modes, which means your team can still manually drive our tuggers, forklifts and stockchasers as necessary.

How long does it take to deploy an autonomous vehicle?

With our streamlined integration process and dedicated deployment team, we’ll have you up and running with an autonomous vehicle in a matter of days. And because we bring autonomous capabilities to vehicles that you are already familiar with, your entire team can be trained before lunch. Our integration team will work with you every step of the way to design a customized autonomy plan and ensure a smooth deployment of your AV fleet.

Do your vehicles require changes to our infrastructure?

No. Our autonomous vehicles are designed to integrate smoothly with your existing workflows. We utilize our 3D LiDAR to map your facility and localize based on existing features within the current environment. There is no need for fiducials, stickers, tape, or any other sort of special infrastructure.

Our vehicles are Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). We use advanced sensors, cameras, and software to dynamically navigate and interact with the environment without the need for any special infrastructure installation like AGVs require. AMRs are more flexible, intelligent, and can choose the most efficient path to the endpoint.

What’s the capacity and how many carts can you tow?

Our DriveMod Autonomous Tugger can tow up to 12,000 pounds. Generally speaking, if you can do it manually, we can do the same autonomously (as long as the total load weighs under 12,000 lbs). The only limit to how many carts you can tow is our towing capacity and the minimum turning radius and aisle width needed to operate. Most companies tow between 1-5 carts.

What benefits are there to implementing autonomy?

Increased Productivity - When vehicles drive themselves, employees stay focused on the most important and revenue-generating tasks across your organization.

Increased Safety - With thousands of hours of AI-powered training and multiple, redundant safety systems, our AVs drive efficiently and safely — every time.

Lower Labor Costs - Autonomous vehicles run multiple shifts a day without triggering overtime pay or high insurance costs.

Access to Data Insights - Autonomous vehicles become the eyes and ears of your operation. Obtain real-time performance KPIs to uncover bottlenecks, efficiency opportunities, and more.

How does your autonomy system work?

Our autonomous system relies on the creation of a “localization map” (a blueprint of its environment) and a “semantic map” that is overlaid on top of the localization map. Cyngn’s localization map, unlike many competitors, is three-dimensional, making it very robust to dynamic environments and enabling advanced perception. Our semantic map is where we store information like routes, waypoints, stop signs, and speed limits, ensuring your rules of the road are adhered to by our technology.

Can Cyngn retrofit existing industrial vehicles?

Yes, Cyngn enables companies with existing vehicles to turn their fleets autonomous with the DriveMod Kit, our all-in-one autonomy integration package.
